As a registered nurse with decades of experience, Sheila brings a deep knowledge of healthcare to her work as a freelance health writer and journalist.

Her background includes different areas of expertise, such as surgery, urgent care and epidemiology, in a variety of settings, from large university hospitals to small community hospitals to multi-site ambulatory clinics, and most recently, with a Medicaid Managed Care Plan,

bringing quality healthcare to the medically underserved.

She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and was awarded the Luc R. Pelletier Healthcare Quality Award in 2018 by the National Association for Healthcare Quality for her work in improving diabetic retinopathy screening rates in collaboration with a provider partner.

Preventive care and healthcare consumer empowerment are her passions!

She and her husband live in Solvang, CA with their two school-aged children who keep them hopping. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, West Coast Swing dancing, quilting, and wine tasting (not necessarily in that order)!
